Warrior's Way Yoga

Warrior’s Way Yoga: Learn to live the Warrior’s Way through the discipline of yoga.

Who can participate: Anyone who is committed to living.

The Warrior’s Way is a mental training program and philosophy of life that draws from the mindset of warriors in deadly duels. Such situations strip away the superfluous and focus attention on what’s most important. To have the best chance of surviving a deadly duel, a warrior must be aware of the relationship between motivation, decisions, and actions. If we’re motivated primarily by the goal of surviving, our focus is on an outcome, which we can’t directly control. Our attention is squandered, and we’re likely to die. If we’re motivated by the process of fighting well, however, our attention shifts to the application of our skills. We’re more likely to survive. This is the great paradox of life. We survive and thrive not by fixating on outcomes, but by displaying excellence in the processes of living. We become more and more intentional with how we choose to focus our attention. With practice, we become mentally powerful and live our lives courageously, as warriors do.

The Warrior's Way Yoga program is designed to help you accept, engage, and enjoy your life, instead of moving from comfort zone to comfort zone. Through discussion and asana, we’ll guide you through the Warrior’s Way to improve how we “show up” for the stresses of life. We’ll identify mental and physical practices that we can integrate into our lives so we meet life’s challenges as courageous warriors.

Nikki McGee
Nikki started yoga practice as a means to improve her rock climbing. The benefits were immediate, but the philosophy took a while to sink in. As her understanding of the mind/body connection deepened, she wanted to share that with others. Nikki spent the next few years traveling around the U.S., Canada, and Latin America, climbing, exploring her personal yoga practice, and seeking spiritual guidance. She received her 200-hour YTT certification in the Spring of 2014 and has since focused on Yin, restorative and more meditative yoga practices, workshops, and retreats. Nikki wants people who participate in yoga to feel welcome and at home with her and on their mat, regardless of their level of experience, shape, and flexibility. All participants need is to “show up” with an open heart.

Arno Ilgner
Arno Ilgner distinguished himself as a pioneering rock climber in the 1970s and ’80s. In 1995, after searching the literature and practice of mental training, Ilgner formalized his methods, created The Warrior’s Way, and began teaching full time. Ilgner has taught clinics across the U.S. and abroad. He holds a BA in Geology, operated a geological consulting firm, acted as CFO for a company, and attended the Army Ranger School. He lives and climbs in Tennessee.
