Who are you, and why are you in Nashville?

Hi I’m Katie! I moved to Nashville 5 years ago on a whim, and I've loved it so much I haven’t left. I didn’t have any idea what I wanted to do for work when I moved here, but I knew I wanted to work, in some capacity, in the health and wellness world.  

I joined Climb with a friend soon after the East side location opened up.  I got really excited about climbing, and then I took Renee’s boot camp class.  And that class changed my world! :) I loved it so much; I started taking a lot of different fitness classes.  A year+ later, I had my personal training certification and my 200-hour yoga certification, and I started teaching classes.


What sparked your interest in fitness or yoga?

I’ve practiced yoga since high school, but I wasn’t really involved with the fitness world until I fell in love with that boot camp class.  I was surprised that doing pushups and squats made me feel so good.  

Since then how has fitness or yoga changed your life?

Yoga gave me a strong foundation, and fitness has taken me to another level.  My body feels so strong, and I am so much more confident in my capabilities in and outside of the gym.  I keep coming back to train because it helps me deal with all aspects of my life in a more constructive way.  

And what about personal training keeps you coming back?

Personal training is the best job.  I love teaching people how to move.  I think giving yourself the time to move your body—  whether it’s super restorative yoga or a sweaty, heart pumping workout— makes all of life a little bit better.  My goal is to help people find a movement practice they enjoy and give them the tools they need to be successful in that movement practice.  My favorite moments with clients are seeing people reach a goal- whether it’s a heavy deadlift or a solid pushup.  

Do you have a favorite workout/pose/flow?

My personal favorite movements are deadlifts, kettlebell swings, and slow, restorative yoga.  I love any workout that involves kettlebells or using just my bodyweight.  

What's rad about your life right now, in or outside the gym?

Outside of the gym, I’ve got a super sweet golden pup named Hazel Grace, and a sweet boo.  Life is good.
