Do you or have you ever had a Nickname?

Friends used to call me Kate The Great, and my boyfriend calls me Vegan Buzzkill because I'm always talking about health and how something is bad for you.

Tell us a little bit about yourself and what brought you to Nashville? 

I came to Nashville in 2011 to go to Belmont University. I studied public relations and worked for a couple years before deciding to pursue my passion—wellness—full time. I may be a meditating yogi, but I actually got my first certification in indoor cycling. I then finished my 200-hour meditation teacher training with Charlie Knoles and The Veda Center. I became a 200-hour registered yoga teacher through Sanctuary for Yoga in Nashville, and I am an integrative nutrition health coach through the Institute for Integrative Nutrition. I truly believe in the trifecta of meditation, yoga, and nutrition for optimal health. 

Why do you meditate? What benefits do you think others can gain from meditating on a regular basis? 

I meditate because I'm a type A stressed out person, and I really believe in the power of healing through breathing and calming the body. I think people are drawn to and become experts in the things they need most themselves. Meditation is so beneficial because it switches your body into the parasympathetic system, which heals your digestion, boosts immunity, lowers blood pressure, increases cognitive function, and helps you sleep better at night. If you meditate on a regular basis, I can say from personal experience that your cravings will decrease, you will feel more focused in your workouts and on the climbing wall, and you will take time to pause and think before automatically speaking to others. 


What's rad about your life right now, on or off the wall?

I recently went plantbased, and I have never felt more energy and enthusiasm in my life! I love making vegan cheese and other recipes that people would never guess are vegan. When I'm not meditating or doing yoga, I'm cooking!
