So Hupp, who are you and what brought you to Nashville?
I originally moved to Nashville to pursue a music career, either as a performer or songwriter. Soon after graduating from Belmont University with a BA in Songwriting, I realized I had a passion for route setting and coaching the next generation of rock climbers. I stopped pursuing music and dove into the climbing industry head first.
How did you originally get into climbing?
A high school buddy took me out to Barn Bluff in Minnesota back in 2010. Soon after that, I was completely hooked.
How has climbing changed your life?
Wow, there are so many answers to this question. The most important aspect of climbing is the camaraderie it's brought to my life. Climbing is unique amongst all sports in the shared experience it creates between partners, and that's been very important to me in my climbing and personal life.
If you had to choose a "style" of routesetting what would you call yours?
High feet, lock off, don't blow the clip.
What's your favorite route you've climbed, where is it and why is it your favorite?
Best route I've ever climbed is the Casual Route on the Diamond of Long's Peak in Colorado. It's at the top of my list because of it's intense setting, extreme exposure, and historic reputation. 5 stars.
What's rad about your life right now, on or off the wall?
Life is rad! I get paid to do something I love, get to spend my free time rock climbing, and live in a pretty bustling city.
Any shout outs, current projects, or anything else you want to share with the community?
Keep an eye out for the up-and-coming country superstar Hupp Daniels. Rumor has it he's the next Conway Twitty. Also thanks to Evolv for the support.
