Every now and then you may see a poster for a SCC Competition or a SCC Fundraiser hanging on the wall by the water fountain at West. But what is the SCC, or Southeastern Climber's Coalition? Read on to find out:
WHAT IS THE SCC?
The Southeastern Climbers Coalition is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving climbing access in the southeast. SCC members and volunteers are climbers from Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida, Arkansas and elsewhere. These members and volunteers have joined forces to preserve access to climbing areas in the region so that we climbers can enjoy them today and long into the future.
HOW CAN I HELP?
Every day the SCC is looking for new members and volunteers to help in their preservation efforts, check out how you can help:
Join the SCC. Become a member. Make a donation. Your financial contribution, however big or small, helps sustain the work of the SCC. The SCC is a non-profit organization so all donations are tax deductible. Click here to go to become a member or make a donation.
Volunteer at a trail day. The SCC organizes several trail days per year with the purpose of conducting erosion control, trail maintenance and trash clean-up. Please attend one or two trail days per year at your favorite crags. Check out their trail days here.
Represent the SCC. The SCC organizes several fundraisers throughout the year, and the SCC is invited to climbing competitions and other events all over the southeast. Upcoming competition: 'Go Blue or Go Home' is the first ever flash climbing competition at the brand new cliff: Blue Rock. Blue Rock is located on Jasper Highlands Mountain Community property situated in the Fiery Gizzard in between Denny Cove and Castle Rock. There are currently 40 sport routes at the shady cliff ranging from 5.9 faces to 5.13+ overhangs on superb white Southern Sandstone towering up to 100' in height. Get more info here!
