First Time

What you need to know

Gym Orientation

Everyone that comes to either of our facilities must complete a full gym orientation.  This includes a full tour (approx. 15 min.) of our gym including the rules, what you are able to participate in that day, what to know during your time at our facility, the best ways to enjoy climbing, and much more.

Belaying

Belaying is the management of the climbers rope from the ground.  A climbing rope is attached to the climber's harness from where it runs to the top of the wall over a fixed bar and back down the the belayer on the ground who removes the rope slack as the climber moves upwards. We believe in creating competent, informed, and safe climbers and belayers whether you climb once a year or once a week.  Belaying is not difficult and our instructors can teach anyone 13 years old or older in 20-30 minutes.  We do NOT have staff belayers on call, however, you may RESERVE a Private Belayer TWO WEEKS in advance.  (Reserve A Private Belayer Now)

Top Rope Climbing

This is what most people think of when they think of rock climbing.  Put simply, a climber attaches to one end of a rope and a belayer attaches to the other end. Our 60 top rope stations vary from 25 to 50+ feet high.  This is appropriate for any age, weight, or ability.

Auto-belay

We have 18 Auto-Belay units at West & 2 Auto-Belay units at East available for use for all ages (climbers under 13 must be clipped in by an adult).  The Auto-Belay units clip to the climber's harness  in lieu of another qualified belayer.

Bouldering

A type of climbing done without ropes. Climbers 13 years old or older may climb up to 15’ high in our bouldering area which is encircled by 12 inches of padding.  No partners are required as ropes and belayers are not necessary.  Spotters are recommended for first timer climbers.
